    sand filter
  • A filter used in water purification and consisting of layers of sand arranged with coarseness of texture increasing downward

  • Sand filters are used for water purification. There are three main types; # rapid (gravity) sand filters # upflow sand filters # slow sand filters

  • The oldest and most basic filtration process, which generally uses two grades of sand (coarse and fine) for turbidity removal or as a first stage roughing filter or pre-filter in more complex processing systems.

  • (sand filters) Devices that remove some suspended solids from sewage. Air and bacteria decompose additional wastes filtering through the sand so that cleaner water drains from the bed.

    pressure
  • The force exerted per unit area

  • The use of persuasion, influence, or intimidation to make someone do something

  • The continuous physical force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it

  • the force applied to a unit area of surface; measured in pascals (SI unit) or in dynes (cgs unit); "the compressed gas exerts an increased pressure"

  • coerce: to cause to do through pressure or necessity, by physical, moral or intellectual means :"She forced him to take a job in the city"; "He squeezed her for information"

  • a force that compels; "the public brought pressure to bear on the government"

Sunset Surprise

Sunset Surprise

I was hiking and backpacking in Salt Creek Canyon in Needles District in Canyonlands NP. A deep low pressure system brought some really nasty weather. It hailed on me, it rained on me, I had sand storms, thunder, lightning and was almost blown down a ridge with wind gusts of almost 60mp/h.
WTF!!
After another thunderstorm forced me to set up camp somewhere in a safe area in Salt Creek Canyon and to seek some shelter under a big alcove, the weather cleared for a while. I used that calm period to filter some water for dinner. It was almost sunset. All of a sudden the sun found a tiny spot in the sky to break through and I was rewarded with a wonderful lightshow on the sandstone pinnacles next to me.
Lucky me, I had my point and shoot camera in my pocket and at least I could take a few shots.

Another view of the Old Carr Bridge @ Hillsborough, NH. I am totally in awe of these structures, perfectly pressure packed stone structures still standing after a hundred years and still in working order. The place was filled with a lot fishermen trying their luck on the trouts found in these streams. Some of them did get a lot of fish though.

I am a bit confused about the name of the bridge as most of my online research about them provided two names for this bridge. If any local can tell me whether its Jones Bridge or Old Carr Bridge, I really appreciate it. Hope you all like it.

Settings: F5.6, 1/40 Sec, WB: Cloudy, ISO: 100, Exp Comp: 0.0, handheld.
